Frontline AIDS commissioned a strategy film and accompanying report to introduce its 2026–2030 organisational strategy, Power in Partnership. Designed for existing partners, stakeholders and prospective collaborators, the work needed to clearly communicate a complex strategic vision while balancing urgency, optimism and collective action. Working within the existing brand, I led the visual design across both the film and report, establishing a cohesive visual language that carried through every touchpoint.

The Brief

The project began with the film, where we developed the visual direction through styleframes before translating those principles into a comprehensive editorial report. Establishing the film first created a consistent design system that informed typography, layout, colour and composition across both formats, ensuring the strategy felt unified.

The Approach

The visual style was meant to bring together the striking visual imagery the features heavily in FA branding, with bold, clashing colours and graphic elements. All to create a mood of determination, optimism and urgency. The look we landed on combined cut out ‘collage’ graphic designs, with grunge and screen textures and bold print typography, creating a vibrant, rebellious energy.

Styleframes

Working from the approved styleframes, I animated selected sequences of the film, bringing to life typography, graphics, camera movements and transitions. The focus was on maintaining clarity and balance throughout, using motion to emphasise high impact visuals and energetic animation.

The Motion Design

Following the film, I designed a 12-page strategy report. Building on the typography, colour and graphic principles developed for the film, I created a flexible layout system that balanced dense content with clear hierarchy, allowing the report to function as both a companion piece and a standalone publication.

Alongside the editorial layouts, I adapted elements from the film and directly inputted them into the report. This developed into a suite of infographics, data visualisations, icons and supporting imagery graphics.

Consistency and balance were key focuses throughout, using a considered visual system to present detailed content with clarity, whilst maintaining a strong connection to the film's original look.
